Mimi Matthews historical romance writing is a pure joy to read. She effortlessly entwines history around beautifully developed characters and creates a story that has you glued to the book from page one!

In order to saved the beautiful orphaned Phyllida Satterthwaite from fearsome Duke of Moreland, Captain Arthur Heywood proposes a marriage of convenience. But with this marriage he will only be able to give her his name because he has been horrible wounded from the war and can not imagine what else he would have to offer. Miss Satterthwaite accepts and starts a journey of healing for both of them, both physically and emotionally.

I highly recommend The Work of Art by Mimi Matthews for all lovers of historical fiction and romance.

Characters that are developed and graphics you, quick flowing plots to move the story and an ending to delight! As a duke, Matthew believes he should be able to marry anyone he decides on… and he decides that the perfect bride to fit into his unconventional life is his neighbour, Sarah. Since Sarah has never even met Mathew before his proposal, she decides that a courtship is needed before she make up her mind! I was was immediately invested in the non-traditional courtship between nearly on the shelf Sarah, and her reclusive duke for a neighbour Matthew. The determination and genuine personalities of both characters carries this book off effortlessly and would leave me wanting for more if the story had not been finished up so neatly! I adore a good romance novella and liken it to the perfect bite ...
