Lord Holt Takes a Bride

Lord Holt Takes a Bride

Mating Habits of Scoundrels #1

by Vivienne Lorret

⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

This new series definitely starts off with a wild ride! Lord Holt Takes a Bride introduces us to Heiress Winnifred Humphries and her friend of misfits as she prepares for her wedding to the odious Mr. Woodbine. Though in line for a Dukedom, there is no love between these two. He outright insults her figure and eating habits! Her friends devise a way to escape the wedding by leaving a sousing in a caraige outside the wedding, should she choose to bail…

Unbenounced to Beatrice, the cousin is not in the carriage, but Lord Holt (Asher) - bent on returning her to her father to receive payment upon her safe return… too bad the quick drop off turns into a 3 day adventure into the country where anything wrong that could occur, does!

Asher and Beatrice make their way to their destination and discover their true selves along the way. The character development and accompanying banter made this a real fun book to read. Each character had their faults, but you can’t help rooting for them the whole time! Asher and Beatrice against the world!

The end was a bit far fetched, but in romanceland, it was perfect. Left me with a big smile on my face!

One complaint wold be with the devastatingly beautiful cover- throughout the book Beatrice suffers low self-esteem over her body shape. While stunning, it would have been nice to see a curvier model on the cover.

Lord Holt Takes a Bride by Vivienne Lorret is scheduled to release March 31st, 2020.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from HarperCollins Publishers, Avon Books through Edelweiss+. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Remember Love

Remember Love Ravenswood series, Book 1 by Mary Balogh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Historical romance queen, Mary Balogh introduces us to another brilliant extended family and reminds up to remember love in one swoop with this series opener! First off, this epic second chance romance gave me pure romantic chills that were remittent to reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Her beautiful storytelling and detailed descriptions and character building really immersed me into this story and made me root for second chances and love! Childhood neighbours, Devlin Ware and Gwyneth Rhys never know the other felt the same attraction and pull towards the other until the stars aligned at the neighbourhood fete and they finally discover their mutual affection… but they were not mean to be young lovers, since family scandal befalls Devin and he is banished from his family home.  White no where to go and a determination to shed his innocence and become a man, he enlist in a foot regiment… and stays away at war ...

My Contrary Mary

My Contrary Mary Voice Galley by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 What a fun treat to be back in the world of Verities and Eðians (shapeshifters)that readers were introduced to in My Lady Jane! In this re-telling of the story of Mary Queen of Scots, we are shown her life at court in France where she awaits to be married to her betrothed, the France Dauphin, Francis. Both Mary and Francy are nearly pawns in their elders plans, but they yearn for a time when they will be able to rule together and make a difference to their respective kingdoms.  Like the other Janite books before this, magic and comedy play a big role and make this story a lot of fun. The comedic references to modern movies were such a hoot to spot and decipher what movie they were from! This book went at a relatively quick pace and followed our teenage royalty as they attempt to find a way to rule in a divided world. The Verities and Eðians seem like a good representation of the Cat...
