Desperately Seeking Duke #1

by Caroline Linden

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

This new series from Caroline Linden starts with the search for a Ducal heir… there are three men in the running; a gambler, a Captain and a Frenchman. The gambler and the Captain are invited to meet with the duchess to learn of their good fortune. She also bestows upon them a living , so that they may start learning and acting the part of a refined gentleman.

Maximilian St. James can’t believe his luck! With this new connection and the living he now has, he can finally make his dreams come true. To do this he needs a wife… not any wife, a wife that will make him a partner in a business. He proposes to Cathy Tate, the pottery heiress and starts to plan his new business venture…

Too bad Miss Cathy has other plans… like running away the night before the wedding! Her father is instanced! He has no male heir, so bringing Max into the family was going to the solution to all his problems. But wait! He does have another daughter, Bianca! She has been against Max and his suit of her sister from he beginning, but this was never a love match, more a business arrangement. For the sake of her family business, Bianca agrees to the loveless marriage.

Bianca is able to keep Max at arms length until they decide to travel to London to further pursue the business. Together they see the sights, work on new developments for their pottery and drum up more business. Through like interests and respect for each others skills and work they begin to fall involve with each other… by the time they return home their loveless marriage is blazing with passion!

What a great start to a new series! I loved how the hero and heroine were not peers of the realm, but working gentry whom have a passion for their art. The hero Max stood out as well in this story. His wife Bianca gives him every bit of venom and spite she can deliver and he takes it all in stride, still respecting her and returning to her day after day to show his devotion. Almost like teaching an abused animal to trust again. Very well done.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m already excited to see what the next heir is up to!

Remember Love

Remember Love Ravenswood series, Book 1 by Mary Balogh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Historical romance queen, Mary Balogh introduces us to another brilliant extended family and reminds up to remember love in one swoop with this series opener! First off, this epic second chance romance gave me pure romantic chills that were remittent to reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Her beautiful storytelling and detailed descriptions and character building really immersed me into this story and made me root for second chances and love! Childhood neighbours, Devlin Ware and Gwyneth Rhys never know the other felt the same attraction and pull towards the other until the stars aligned at the neighbourhood fete and they finally discover their mutual affection… but they were not mean to be young lovers, since family scandal befalls Devin and he is banished from his family home.  White no where to go and a determination to shed his innocence and become a man, he enlist in a foot regiment… and stays away at war ...

White Knight Needed

White Knight Needed Reluctant Heroes, Book 2 by Betina Krahn ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Barclay Howard is bigger and burlier than your average gentleman… and thus he has found himself to be somewhat of an antidote to the fairer sex. As a result he is more often found behind the pages of his Ivanhoe novel than out and about attempting to court a fair lady. But when his path crosses with down on her luck Norah Capshaw, his white knight complex rises up to make him go above and beyond again and again to be her hero… even though she is incredibly reluctant to the idea! This was a fun adventure romance filled with roadside hijinks, and a family mystery. Barclay was a perfect hero in this book. He was always there offering support and rescue to Norah. On the other side Norah’s resistance of Barclay and his efforts was the only wet blanket on this otherwise delightfully sweet romance!   Overall, this is my second Betina Kran book and I find her writing very light hearted and action packed. A Duke for Miss Townsbridge

A Duke for Miss Townsbridge The Townsbridges, Book 4 by Sophie Barnes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Sophie Barnes is a master at the novella! Every time I read one of her novellas, it is just perfect! Characters that are developed and graphics you, quick flowing plots to move the story and an ending to delight! As a duke, Matthew believes he should be able to marry anyone he decides on… and he decides that the perfect bride to fit into his unconventional life is his neighbour, Sarah. Since Sarah has never even met Mathew before his proposal, she decides that a courtship is needed before she make up her mind! I was was immediately invested in the non-traditional courtship between nearly on the shelf Sarah, and her reclusive duke for a neighbour Matthew. The determination and genuine personalities of both characters carries this book off effortlessly and would leave me wanting for more if the story had not been finished up so neatly! I adore a good romance novella and liken it to the perfect bite ...
