Mermaid Inn

Mermaid Inn

A Matchmaker Bay Novel, book 1

by Jenny Holiday

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

After recently reading Mermaid Inns’ sequel, Paradise Cove, and LOVING it, I knew I had to back track and read the Mermaid Inn ASAP.

I love a good second chance romance! Sawyer and Eve broke up 10 years ago after Sawyer publicly cheats on her… Broken hearted, Eve stays away from Moonflower Bay until her aunts passing when she is willed her formerly beloved summer escape, the Mermaid Inn. Trying to keep her heartache at bay, she plans on selling the inn and moving on… that is until she learns of a clause in the will not allowing her to sell for one year. Now she has a year to fix up the inn and mend the preverbal fences with Sawyer since it looks like she won’t be able to avoid him.

Ten years ago Sawyer pushed his love, Eve away she would follow her dreams. Now she is back. Can he fix them while helping fix her inn?

Eve and Sawyer were a delight! After reading about them as side characters int he second book, it was even more fun getting to read their HEA from start to finish. Sawyer has the cinnamon roll hero that you just wanted to take a bite out of! There whenever he is needed for his lady love, friends or his town. Eve had a good transition from her hurt and anger to being able to objectively see what and where she wanted her life to be. It was easy to see that these two were made for each other.

Moonflower Bay is an idyllic lakeside town, that is practically a character itself. I’d love to vacation there. Not  just the town, but the colourful townspeople who give Moonflower Bay its nickname, Matchmaker Bay are a true delight! In true matchmaker fashion, the townspeople (even hero and heroines’ friends) are in their business from the start prodding, hindering, assisting.. whatever it takes to get another HEA in the Bay!

This was another perfect summer romance, Jenny Holiday has definitely become an auto buy author for me!

If your interested, check out my review for the recently released sequel, Paradise Cove- another 5 star book!!!

The Art of Taxidermy

by    Sharon Kernot I didn’t know what I was getting when I picked out this book. When I first opened this book and started to read, I was pleasantly surprised. The author, has written this novel in verse and the flow of the writing really goes with and helps tell the story. The Art of Taxidermy tells a gripping and emotional story about love of family and great loss. The themes are woven through the coming of age of young Lottie, along with her immigrant family in Australia after the second world war. I was taken in by this book from the first page and was made to feel deeply for Lottie and this family. Sharon Kernot has written a beautiful book and I can not highly recommend it enough. This is a must read. The Art of Taxidermy by Sharon Kernot is due to release August 23rd, 2019. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Text Publishing Company through NetGalley. The Outlaw's Daughter

The Outlaw’s Daughter Haywire Bride Series #3 by Margaret Brownley ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 A year old stage robbery has brought Texas Ranger, Matt Taggert to the small town of Haywire. While investigating his lead he he discovers that his prime suspect died just days after the stage coach robbery and is the tow’s local hero… not only that, he has left behind a beautiful widow and 2 children. Ellie-May is no stranger to public scorn, as the daughter of an outlaw , she knows what the Rangers accusations against her deceased husband will do to her family and children. For the sake of her family, she will do anything to protect them and that includes keeping secrets and resisting the Rangers charms!  This was fun story. I loved how the romance also included the children because as a mother myself (happily married) I could never imagine being able to separate my love life from that of my family life. A new partner would definitely need to win over the kids along with me!  ...

Here to Stay

Here to Stay by Adriana Herrara ⭐⭐⭐ /5 Adrianna Herraara has a remarkable way of capturing the personality and spirit of her New Yorker characters… even when they aren’t in their native New York! The friendships created and the corresponding camaraderie are what stood out to me the most in this book. It was fun to watch these ex-pat New Yorkers come together in their new home and bond. As for the romance, I found it a bit forced. Julia is on a dating sabbatical and not looking for a man… Rocco is only in Dallas working fro the men trying to cut funding and close Julia’s charitable foundation that she works for. These two should be enemies, but they are friends… the tension between them is pretty high, but they both know they are on opposite sides… I found it unsatisfying… size they were workplace enemies, their friendship muddied the waters. I found it hard to get behind their romance. On another side, I really enjoyed the representation of the charitabl...
