THE HEAT WAVE

The Heat Wave

by Kate Riordan

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Long buried secrets slowly reveal themselves as a mother and daughter pack up their old family home in the South of France…

After the loss of her eldest daughter and the dissolution of her marriage, Sylvie moved from her family home in Southern France to London, England… Ten years later a fire at the family home pushes Sylvie to return with her younger daughter, whom is now 14, to finally take care of the home and tie up these loose strings of her past.

An odd feeling overcomes them upon their return and stifling heat wave , the likes of which hasn’t been seen of since she left, keeps them in a lethargic state. Soon memories start to return for both Sylvie and her younger daughter, Emma. Sylvie is determined that Emma will not learn the whole truth of their departure ten years ago… until unforeseen events and visitors push the issue.
This book had me wrapped up in the mother daughter relationships with both daughters from the get go. By bouncing back and forth in time, Riordan slowly unravels the relationship dynamics and builds the suspense. I definitely could not put this book down once I started! Each chapter delving a little deeper and unraveling the mystery a piece at time kept me saying just one more chapter late in to the night!

The gorgeous scenery depictions for La Reverie and the Southern France locale and the descriptions of the heat made the book feel very immersive and helped amp up the suspense!

This was a suspenseful delight and I was surprised by the ending, I highly recommend this book!

The Heat Wave by Kate Riordan was released August 18th, 2020.

Remember Love Ravenswood series, Book 1 by Mary Balogh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Historical romance queen, Mary Balogh introduces us to another brilliant extended family and reminds up to remember love in one swoop with this series opener! First off, this epic second chance romance gave me pure romantic chills that were remittent to reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Her beautiful storytelling and detailed descriptions and character building really immersed me into this story and made me root for second chances and love! Childhood neighbours, Devlin Ware and Gwyneth Rhys never know the other felt the same attraction and pull towards the other until the stars aligned at the neighbourhood fete and they finally discover their mutual affection… but they were not mean to be young lovers, since family scandal befalls Devin and he is banished from his family home.  White no where to go and a determination to shed his innocence and become a man, he enlist in a foot regiment… and stays away at war ...

The Gunslinger’s Guide to Avoiding Matrimony

The Gunslinger’s Guide to Avoiding Matrimony By Michelle MacLean ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 The follow up to Michelle MacLean’s Hitched to the Gunslinger, The Gunslinger’s Guide to Avoiding Matrimony is finally here and the citizens of Desolation are up to more shenanigans! Running from the law retired gunslinger/gambler Adam Woodson stumbled upon the town of Desolation. His timing is perfect and he walks right into the mess groom selection/ wedding ceremony for the town and ends up married to spinster Nora. Nora hadn’t planned on picking a groom, but Adam will suit her purpose nicely- she only needs a husband long enough to inherit her property… too bad Adam has no intention of being that husband! Now the rules of Desolation state a man must marry or find a job… so Adam starts trying his hand at all the jobs, while Nora attempts to woo him to sign the marriage papers. In general this is a cute and funny premise, but Adam’s insistence that he can’t/won’t marry is too much. I felt for Nora and her inse...

The Lady Tempts the Heir

The Lady Tempts the Heir The Gilded Age Heiresses, Book #3 by Harper St. George ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5  Max Crenshaw has been summoned back to England for the third time… in the past it was over drama with his sisters and his parents matchmaking schemes… now his father is ill and has his sights set on his legacy. It’s Max’s turn to marry! But Max isn’t going to just heed his father’s demands- he’s his own man and it’s a modern (Gilded) age! Solution: he will find a fake fiancée to cease his threats. His sisters friend, whom he had a shared experience with, the widowed Lady Helena March would be perfect! Just what his father wants and bonus-she’s not interested in marriage either! Ah, the old fake engagement! I suggest choosing someone you don’t actually like if you don’t want to end up married for real in the end! I jest! Max and Helena make a perfect pairing… so perfect the only thing that seems to be keeping them from actually being engaged in truth is the long distanced nature of ...
