Best Laid Plans

The Garnet Run series, Book 2

by Roan Parrish

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

The sudden death of Charlies parents when he was eighteen and raising his younger brother, has molded him into the caregiver that he now is… only he is alone now , with only his cat Jane and his routine for company.

When a surprise inheritance brings lone wolf, Rye to Garnet Run in search of a home he has never had, his surreptitious meeting of Charlie at his hardware store sets them on  path that neither of them expected and both of them always dreamed of: a  home and family.

I am a sucker for a good odd couple pairing, and prickly Rye and cuddly Charlie make a a delightful match as they get to know one another. Soon they find that they not only have a spark between them, but are each in possession of what the other wants and needs to finds their own happiness.

I especially enjoyed the softening of Rye as he takes it slow, respecting Charlies’s boundaries and uncertainties as they explore their connection. Charlie was such a sweetheart and I was overjoyed for him to find someone that he could take care of and take care of him!

And I can’t forget the CATS! I’m not even much of a cat lover, but the cats in this book, both Rye’s and Charlies are like secondary characters and I loved the comfort and fun they added to the story.

As always, Carina Press delivers the happily ever after I crave! A cute read that I could not put down and totally recommend!

Book Description

A man who’s been moving his whole life finally finds a reason to stay put.

Charlie Matheson has spent his life taking care of things. When his parents died two days before his eighteenth birthday, he took care of his younger brother, even though that meant putting his own dreams on hold. He took care of his father’s hardware store, building it into something known several towns over. He took care of the cat he found in the woods…so now he has a cat.

When a stranger with epic tattoos and a glare to match starts coming into Matheson’s Hardware, buying things seemingly at random and lugging them off in a car so beat-up Charlie feels bad for it, his instinct is to help. When the man comes in for the fifth time in a week, Charlie can’t resist intervening.

Rye Janssen has spent his life breaking things. Promises. His parents’ hearts. Leases. He isn’t used to people wanting to put things back together—not the crumbling house he just inherited, not his future and certainly not him. But the longer he stays in Garnet Run, the more he can see himself belonging there. And the more time he spends with Charlie, the more he can see himself falling asleep in Charlie’s arms…and waking up in them.

Is this what it feels like to have a home—and someone to share it with?

Carina Adores is home to highly romantic contemporary love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters.

The Art of Taxidermy

by    Sharon Kernot I didn’t know what I was getting when I picked out this book. When I first opened this book and started to read, I was pleasantly surprised. The author, has written this novel in verse and the flow of the writing really goes with and helps tell the story. The Art of Taxidermy tells a gripping and emotional story about love of family and great loss. The themes are woven through the coming of age of young Lottie, along with her immigrant family in Australia after the second world war. I was taken in by this book from the first page and was made to feel deeply for Lottie and this family. Sharon Kernot has written a beautiful book and I can not highly recommend it enough. This is a must read. The Art of Taxidermy by Sharon Kernot is due to release August 23rd, 2019. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Text Publishing Company through NetGalley. The Outlaw's Daughter

The Outlaw’s Daughter Haywire Bride Series #3 by Margaret Brownley ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 A year old stage robbery has brought Texas Ranger, Matt Taggert to the small town of Haywire. While investigating his lead he he discovers that his prime suspect died just days after the stage coach robbery and is the tow’s local hero… not only that, he has left behind a beautiful widow and 2 children. Ellie-May is no stranger to public scorn, as the daughter of an outlaw , she knows what the Rangers accusations against her deceased husband will do to her family and children. For the sake of her family, she will do anything to protect them and that includes keeping secrets and resisting the Rangers charms!  This was fun story. I loved how the romance also included the children because as a mother myself (happily married) I could never imagine being able to separate my love life from that of my family life. A new partner would definitely need to win over the kids along with me!  ...

Here to Stay

Here to Stay by Adriana Herrara ⭐⭐⭐ /5 Adrianna Herraara has a remarkable way of capturing the personality and spirit of her New Yorker characters… even when they aren’t in their native New York! The friendships created and the corresponding camaraderie are what stood out to me the most in this book. It was fun to watch these ex-pat New Yorkers come together in their new home and bond. As for the romance, I found it a bit forced. Julia is on a dating sabbatical and not looking for a man… Rocco is only in Dallas working fro the men trying to cut funding and close Julia’s charitable foundation that she works for. These two should be enemies, but they are friends… the tension between them is pretty high, but they both know they are on opposite sides… I found it unsatisfying… size they were workplace enemies, their friendship muddied the waters. I found it hard to get behind their romance. On another side, I really enjoyed the representation of the charitabl...
