The Heart of a Texas Cowboy

The Heart of a Texas Cowboy

Two book compilation: Going Cowboy Crazy and Make Mine a Bad Boy

by Katie Lane

⭐⭐⭐💫 /5

This two book compilation tells the story of twin sisters and there journey to find each other and their own HEA’s. I can imagine finding out as adult that you are are twin and meeting your doppelgänger would be a shock! Luckily for these two, they also find partners to ease them into this new reality. I enjoyed this first twins story more that the second because the heroine in the second grated on my nerves…

See below for my thoughts on booth books.

Going Cowboy Crazy

⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

After leaning from her adoptive mother on her deathbed that she is in fact one of twins, Faith has found her way to the quirky town of Bramble Texas to find her long lost sister, Hope. She soon learns that Hope is in Hollywood, but Hopes old boyfriend, Slate is there to help her sort things out in the town that refuses to believe that she is Faith, not Hope before she gets back on the search…

I enjoyed seeing conservative Faith find her voice and new facets of her personality as she lets loose in Bramble with Slate. These two made a cute paring, even though Slate is the supposed sweetheart of her twin sister!

Without too many spoilers, this whirlwind romance hits the rocks when reality comes crashing back into town… some lies and old issues threaten to tear apart this new life Faith has created, unless she stops being meek and stands up for what and whom she wants. Faith manages to stay pretty positive and able to see the good in others throughout, even when she is dealt some nasty hands…

I loved Faith and Slate together. Their chemistry was electric from the beginning but they still had a sweet high school sweetheart vibe! This was a fun read!

Make Mine a Bad Boy

⭐⭐⭐ /5

Hope Scroggs has retuned to her hometown after failing at making it big in Hollywood. She is better after always being the big fish in the little pond and getting everything she wants. Reality has hit her pretty hard and she does not take it well.

Coincidentally her thorn in her side high school tormentor, Colt shows up around the same time. These two rub each other the wrong way until the sparks they create are too much to reign in! Soon we find out the Hope is unexpectedly pregnant with Colt’s baby. How are these two going to have a baby together when they can’t even be in a room together?!?

I liked bad boy Colt. He always feels like he is not enough for his home town of Bramble and definitely not enough for the unofficial queen of Bramble, Hope, but he is constantly proving his worth throughout this story.

I did not like Hope AT ALL. I didn’t like her from the time she showed up in the previous book and was a brat and tried to tear apart Faith and Slate. Often villain is redeemed in their story, but I felt like Hope was selfish and short sighted this entire story. Thankfully Colt and the rest of the Bramble crew made the book more palatable.

The Art of Taxidermy

by    Sharon Kernot I didn’t know what I was getting when I picked out this book. When I first opened this book and started to read, I was pleasantly surprised. The author, has written this novel in verse and the flow of the writing really goes with and helps tell the story. The Art of Taxidermy tells a gripping and emotional story about love of family and great loss. The themes are woven through the coming of age of young Lottie, along with her immigrant family in Australia after the second world war. I was taken in by this book from the first page and was made to feel deeply for Lottie and this family. Sharon Kernot has written a beautiful book and I can not highly recommend it enough. This is a must read. The Art of Taxidermy by Sharon Kernot is due to release August 23rd, 2019. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Text Publishing Company through NetGalley. The Outlaw's Daughter

The Outlaw’s Daughter Haywire Bride Series #3 by Margaret Brownley ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 A year old stage robbery has brought Texas Ranger, Matt Taggert to the small town of Haywire. While investigating his lead he he discovers that his prime suspect died just days after the stage coach robbery and is the tow’s local hero… not only that, he has left behind a beautiful widow and 2 children. Ellie-May is no stranger to public scorn, as the daughter of an outlaw , she knows what the Rangers accusations against her deceased husband will do to her family and children. For the sake of her family, she will do anything to protect them and that includes keeping secrets and resisting the Rangers charms!  This was fun story. I loved how the romance also included the children because as a mother myself (happily married) I could never imagine being able to separate my love life from that of my family life. A new partner would definitely need to win over the kids along with me!  ...

Here to Stay

Here to Stay by Adriana Herrara ⭐⭐⭐ /5 Adrianna Herraara has a remarkable way of capturing the personality and spirit of her New Yorker characters… even when they aren’t in their native New York! The friendships created and the corresponding camaraderie are what stood out to me the most in this book. It was fun to watch these ex-pat New Yorkers come together in their new home and bond. As for the romance, I found it a bit forced. Julia is on a dating sabbatical and not looking for a man… Rocco is only in Dallas working fro the men trying to cut funding and close Julia’s charitable foundation that she works for. These two should be enemies, but they are friends… the tension between them is pretty high, but they both know they are on opposite sides… I found it unsatisfying… size they were workplace enemies, their friendship muddied the waters. I found it hard to get behind their romance. On another side, I really enjoyed the representation of the charitabl...
