Hollow Kingdom

Hollow Kingdom

by Kira Jane Buxton

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

I don’t Usually stray from reading romance, but when I do I feel like I go pretty far! Kira Jane Buxton’s vision of a post apocalypse future really shook me.

In this anti future, the human race is stuck down by a cancer-line disease that’s turning them into blood hungry monsters in need of a tech fix! Left to their own devises, nature, the animals and plants gang together to survive in this new world without people.

This adventure is told from the point of view of ST, short for Shirt Turd, a plucky, wise cracking domestic crow that identifies more as a person than crow. He is assisting by his speechless companion Dennis the family bloodhound as they go about their mission trying to rescue the other domestics that have been loved indoors after their owners perished.

This story made me laugh (ST’s sarcasm is awesome), think and cry. I haven’t read a book that made me appreciate the human condition so much. If you’re interested in a fun and thought provoking look at humanity, these animals deliver!

I’m excited for the follow up, Feral Creatures being released later this month!

Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton was originally released in August, 2019.

Thanks so much to Grand Central Publishing for gifting me with my review copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Remember Love

Remember Love Ravenswood series, Book 1 by Mary Balogh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Historical romance queen, Mary Balogh introduces us to another brilliant extended family and reminds up to remember love in one swoop with this series opener! First off, this epic second chance romance gave me pure romantic chills that were remittent to reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Her beautiful storytelling and detailed descriptions and character building really immersed me into this story and made me root for second chances and love! Childhood neighbours, Devlin Ware and Gwyneth Rhys never know the other felt the same attraction and pull towards the other until the stars aligned at the neighbourhood fete and they finally discover their mutual affection… but they were not mean to be young lovers, since family scandal befalls Devin and he is banished from his family home.  White no where to go and a determination to shed his innocence and become a man, he enlist in a foot regiment… and stays away at war ...

The Lady Tempts the Heir

The Lady Tempts the Heir The Gilded Age Heiresses, Book #3 by Harper St. George ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5  Max Crenshaw has been summoned back to England for the third time… in the past it was over drama with his sisters and his parents matchmaking schemes… now his father is ill and has his sights set on his legacy. It’s Max’s turn to marry! But Max isn’t going to just heed his father’s demands- he’s his own man and it’s a modern (Gilded) age! Solution: he will find a fake fiancée to cease his threats. His sisters friend, whom he had a shared experience with, the widowed Lady Helena March would be perfect! Just what his father wants and bonus-she’s not interested in marriage either! Ah, the old fake engagement! I suggest choosing someone you don’t actually like if you don’t want to end up married for real in the end! I jest! Max and Helena make a perfect pairing… so perfect the only thing that seems to be keeping them from actually being engaged in truth is the long distanced nature of ...

An Unexpected Earl

An Unexpected Earl Lords of the Armory, Book 2 by Anna Harrington ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Amelia Howard has family secrets and her brother’s blackmailer to foil when she runs into the last man on earth she wants to see right now… her childhood flame, now the Earl of Sandhurst, Brandon Pearce. He broke her heart twelve years ago when their families tore them apart. She has moved on and has no room for love in her life. Brandon has never forgotten his first love, Amelia, and what he runs into her at a disreputable masquerade ball, he feels the same sparks as before. But he’s working on a secret government mission to stop an elusive criminal group that her brother may be linked too… he needs to keep her at arms length, unless he wants all their secrets out in the open. I found that this book had a slow start, but picked up speed as it went on and the drama intensified. By the end of the book I was on the edge of my seat! I really enjoyed Amelia’s character. She had been felt some pretty hard obst...
