Love and Other Disasters

Love and Other Disasters

by Anita Kelly

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Food competition romances are all the rage right now, but it is difficult to find a book that does justice to the completion plot and delivers a satisfying romance… but this one does just that!

This story was delicious from its’s slow burn start where we are introduced to Dahalia Woodson, whom is at the Chef’s Special completion to kickstart her new life. Recently divorced and out of. Job due to the show, Dahalia wants to find who she is or wants to be now in this new stage of her life.

Soon London Parker hits the page and just like Dahlia, we are in immediately intrigued by the quiet charisma exuded by London. London is not with out their struggles, they have come onto the show to showcase their “new" self as well and takes this opportunity to introduce their pronouns (they/them) to the world and be the first non-binary contestant on the show.

Dahlia and London soon bond through the competition and by spending their downtime together, but neither wants to move beyond friendship because of the completion and their own baggage and fears… but the heart wants what it wants and these two are electric together… until they are not!

I loved this story. The romance bloomed slowly, but the personal development of the characters and the subplot of the competition and its ensuing drama made the wait for romance negligible. London’s representation as a non-binary character was excellent. Their struggle and their needs were clearly displayed for the reader, making them very real. I loved that both character had big issues they were dealing with and they were very different from the other. This pairing was a delight to see come together!

First off, this epic second chance romance gave me pure romantic chills that were remittent to reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Her beautiful storytelling and detailed descriptions and character building really immersed me into this story and made me root for second chances and love! The Gunslinger’s Guide to Avoiding Matrimony

The Gunslinger’s Guide to Avoiding Matrimony By Michelle MacLean ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 The follow up to Michelle MacLean’s Hitched to the Gunslinger, The Gunslinger’s Guide to Avoiding Matrimony is finally here and the citizens of Desolation are up to more shenanigans! Running from the law retired gunslinger/gambler Adam Woodson stumbled upon the town of Desolation. His timing is perfect and he walks right into the mess groom selection/ wedding ceremony for the town and ends up married to spinster Nora. Nora hadn’t planned on picking a groom, but Adam will suit her purpose nicely- she only needs a husband long enough to inherit her property… too bad Adam has no intention of being that husband! Now the rules of Desolation state a man must marry or find a job… so Adam starts trying his hand at all the jobs, while Nora attempts to woo him to sign the marriage papers. In general this is a cute and funny premise, but Adam’s insistence that he can’t/won’t marry is too much. I felt for Nora and her inse...

It’s Max’s turn to marry! But Max isn’t going to just heed his father’s demands- he’s his own man and it’s a modern (Gilded) age! Solution: he will find a fake fiancée to cease his threats. His sisters friend, whom he had a shared experience with, the widowed Lady Helena March would be perfect! Just what his father wants and bonus-she’s not interested in marriage either! Ah, the old fake engagement! I suggest choosing someone you don’t actually like if you don’t want to end up married for real in the end! I jest! Max and Helena make a perfect pairing… so perfect the only thing that seems to be keeping them from actually being engaged in truth is the long distanced nature of ...
